1872  There are numbers of white bass and sturgeon in many of the large rivers.
1963  The proper name of this fish is white bass (Lepibema chrysops) and though the average caught weighs less than a pound, weights up to three pounds are not uncommon. As the name indicates this fish is silver in color, the back dark green or grey, the belly white. The eyes are tinted with yellow and five to seven horizontal dark stripes mark the flanks.
